You scored as John Calvin. Much of what is now called Calvinism had more to do with his followers than Calvin himself, and so you may or may not be committed to TULIP, though God's sovereignty is all important.

Canada Eh?  Heading up tomorrow to the 52nd state we Americans call Canada. Nova Scotia, Prince Edward Island, and Montreal in 7 days. Gonna check out Ann of Green Gables in Cavendish on Prince Edward Island, a girly book which I've read many times over (often with my eyes moist with tears). Will bring back some Cubans (not the people, but the cigar) and an awful Canadian accent.

Base Camping in Nepal  It has taken me almost a year to get these pics up. Ok, really, these are not from Mt. Everest, but the landscape looks similar. It's alpine country surroudning Mt. Rainier in Washington. This was a 4-day backcountry last August near the base of the active volcano.

We're heading out to the Sierra Nevadas (near Yosemite) at the end of July this year. We got two open spots in our backpacking party; if you're interested, let me know. This will be the fourth backpacking trip: Yosemite (2004), White Mountains in New Hampshire (2005), Mt. Rainier (2006).

Place the mouse over each picture for a description (best viewed in IE) and double click on a thumbnail to see the full-sized image. Maximize your browser for the best view.

Mt. Rainier from the plane. Rainier is an active volcano standing at 14,410 feet tall. Its snow-covered cap is full of glaciers. A view of the mountain. Me contemplating the beauty of God's creation.
Tim, you better put on sunglasses before you get snow-blindness. Andrew is the beginning stages of snow delirium. That's me making my way up the summit in the foreground. Me trekking through the snow.
Andrew making his way up the trail with the help of hiking poles. Andrew fording a river while Tim pretends to be a hero. Frank and I pause to take in the view.
Frank and I making our way through the snow fields at around 9,000 feet. Descending alpine meadows and making our way to camp for our first night in the backcountry. Making camp.
Wild huckleberries. Taste great straight up or in your oatmeal. Breaking for lunch. You just can't beat the view. Backpacker's meal. Life imitates art, or art imitates life?

Hillsong United   God knew I needed renewal. And God sure knows what to say to you when you need it:
Heal my heart and make it clean
Open up my eyes to the things unseen
Show me how to love like you have loved me

Break my heart from what breaks yours
Everything I am for your kingdoms cause
As I go from nothing to
Eternity

Hosanna in the highest

Model (The Invisible) Minority   If you grew up Asian you were taught from a very young age to excel in school so you can get into a good college so you can graduate, find a good job, start a family, live happily into old age. Your whole life is wrapped up in reaching this end. You're hard-working, disciplined, enterprising. You were told not to make a fuss about anything else. You're a model for what it means to make it in this country; you're the paragon of immigrants in America; you're the par excellence of the American Dream.

Asians just don't go around shooting people. Asians just don't do that kind of stuff. That's what I said to my roommate yesterday. He himself being Korean, nodded in agreement. But is being a mass murderer a function of race? If anything, I'm a mass murderer ten times over because I commit murder when I have hatred in my heart.

"You've heard that it was said to the people long ago, 'Do not murder, and anyone who murders will be subject to judgment.' But I tell you that anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgment.'" Matthew 5:21

"I killed my brother with malice in my heart. Hatred destroyed my family. You listen, and you take a lesson from the dead. If we don't come together right now on this hallowed ground, we too will be destroyed, just like they were. I don't care if you like each other of not, but you will respect each other." From Remember the Titans
